Because that's the symbol for pi, if you want me to show Greek+ extended I'll show it.
Why use that way of writing π, though?

very κουλ (think i wrote that right)
but i don't know how to read tamil script
I read that as very "cou-wavelength"
if you're a little confused with writing systems maybe you could read that as "very cou-enter" (入る)
